Porringers and Double Boilers
Using a porringer to heat foods such as porridge is a simple process which helps prevent food being burnt as it avoids the cooking surface from being in direct contact with the food being heated or cooked.
These porringers and double boilers, which are sometimes referred to as bain marie pans, have a well in the base of the pan. Simply fill the base of the pan with water and the top pan with your food which needs heated. The heat from the water then heats the food above.
